The CRS is a points-based system used to rank Express Entry candidates. Points are awarded for age (up to 110), education (up to 150), language proficiency (up to 160), Canadian work experience (up to 80), and additional factors like a provincial nomination (+600 points). The highest-ranked candidates receive Invitations to Apply (ITAs) in regular draws.

There is no fixed minimum — it changes with each draw. In 2024-2025, general draws ranged from 430-520+ points. Category-based draws (e.g., healthcare, STEM, French proficiency) have had lower cut-offs. A Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) nomination adds 600 points, virtually guaranteeing an ITA.

Each Canadian province and territory (except Quebec and Nunavut) operates its own PNP to nominate immigrants who meet local labor market needs. A PNP nomination adds 600 CRS points under Express Entry, or can be processed as a standalone application. Each province has different streams with different eligibility criteria.
