What income do I need to sponsor my parents or grandparents (PGP)?

The Parents and Grandparents Program minimum necessary income equals the Low Income Cut-Off plus 30%, met for the three most recent tax years. PGP is currently invitation-only (lottery from the 2020 pool), so new interest-to-sponsor submissions are generally not accepted; check canada.ca and consider the super visa.

What is the income requirement for a super visa?

A super visa host must meet the base Low Income Cut-Off (LICO) for their family size, with no markup. Effective March 31, 2026, the host can use the more favourable of the two preceding tax years and the visiting parent/grandparent's own Canadian income can count toward the threshold.

Do I need a minimum income to sponsor my spouse or child?

In most cases, no. Sponsoring a spouse, partner, or dependent child generally has no minimum income requirement. An exception applies if the dependent child being sponsored has children of their own, in which case LICO and form IMM 1283 apply.
