Where do these exchange rates come from?

Rates come from a daily reference feed and are cached on our server. They reflect mid-market (interbank) rates, which sit between the buy and sell rates a consumer is normally offered.

Can I use this rate to pay my IRCC fees?

No. IRCC charges and collects all fees in Canadian dollars. This converter only helps you understand roughly how much a CAD amount is worth in your currency. Your bank or card will apply its own rate and fees at the time of payment.

Why is the rate different from my bank?

Banks, credit cards, and transfer services add a margin (and sometimes a flat fee) to the mid-market rate. The rate you actually receive is usually a little less favourable than the reference rate shown here.

How often are the rates updated?

The underlying data refreshes about once per day, and we cache it for up to 12 hours. For a live, to-the-second quote, check with your bank or payment provider.
