Maximize Your PNP Chances with Express Entry

A provincial nomination adds 600 CRS points — virtually guaranteeing an ITA. Learn how Express Entry and PNPs work together, then check your CRS score.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP)?
The PNP lets Canadian provinces and territories nominate immigrants who want to settle and work in a specific province. There are two streams: Enhanced PNP (through Express Entry, adding 600 CRS points) and Base PNP (paper-based application, outside Express Entry). Enhanced PNP is dramatically faster — federal processing in ~6 months vs. 15–19 months for Base PNP.
How often do PNP draws happen?
PNP draw frequency varies by province. BC PNP and Ontario OINP typically hold draws every 1–2 weeks. Alberta AAIP, Saskatchewan SINP, Manitoba MPNP, and Nova Scotia NSNP hold draws every 2–4 weeks. Some provinces draw continuously (rolling basis); others hold scheduled draws. Check individual provincial program websites for current schedules.
Are PNP score cutoffs the same as CRS scores?
No. Each province uses its own points system. BC PNP scores are out of ~200 points. Ontario OINP scores are out of 100. Manitoba MPNP uses a score up to 1,000. Alberta AAIP Express Entry stream uses CRS scores directly. Saskatchewan SINP uses its own EOI (Expression of Interest) scoring. Always check the provincial government website for the exact scoring criteria.
Which province has the easiest PNP to get into?
There is no single "easiest" PNP — it depends on your occupation, education, language skills, and where you want to live. BC PNP Tech has lower cutoffs for tech workers. Saskatchewan SINP Occupation In-Demand targets specific in-demand occupations with relatively lower competition. Nova Scotia NSNP Labour Market Priorities targets specific local labour shortages and may be more accessible for candidates with a job offer in Nova Scotia.
Can I apply to multiple PNPs at the same time?
Yes, you can simultaneously submit applications to multiple PNP streams. However, you can only accept one provincial nomination. If you receive nominations from multiple provinces, you must choose one and withdraw from the others. Within Express Entry, having an active Express Entry profile is required to apply to Enhanced PNP streams.
How does a PNP nomination affect my Express Entry CRS score?
Receiving a provincial nomination through the Enhanced PNP stream adds 600 points to your CRS score. This effectively guarantees you will receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA) in the next general Express Entry draw, since 600 extra points puts virtually any candidate far above any draw cutoff. The nomination must be confirmed in your Express Entry profile.

Only a CBSA officer at a port of entry can make admissibility decisions. For complex legal situations, professional guidance may also be beneficial.
