Applying for a temporary resident permit requires a processing fee. Refugees, accredited diplomats, and people who fall into several other specified categories are exempt from paying.

Legal Text — IRPR Regulation 298

(1)298 (1) A fee of $200 is payable for processing an application for a temporary resident permit.

(2)(2) The following persons are not required to pay the fee referred to in subsection (1):
