IRPRPART 11 WorkersDIVISION 3 Issuance of Work Permits
r.202

Temporary resident status

Work Permits
🍁 In Simple Terms

A work permit issued to certain people who cannot be removed from Canada does not by itself make you a temporary resident. You get the right to work without getting the status, which is exactly why some permit holders still cannot do things that require status.

Affects: International students and study permit holders
Legal Text: IRPR Regulation 202

202 A foreign national who is issued a work permit under section 206 or paragraph 207(c) or (d) does not, by reason only of being issued a work permit, become a temporary resident.
