If your entry examination at a port of entry happens outside of the port's normal service hours, you may be charged an examination fee — a set amount for the first four hours plus an additional charge for each hour or part of an hour after that. Who pays and how it's collected depends on whether you arrived by commercial transport or private vehicle.
