A transporter's obligation to hold someone on board until their examination is complete ends only when an officer confirms the examination is done, the person is authorized to enter Canada, or they're taken into custody under Canadian law. If someone escapes from the transporter before examination, the transporter must immediately notify a border officer.

(1)261 (1) Pour l’application de l’alinéa 148(1)b) de la Loi, le transporteur a satisfait à son obligation de détenir une personne jusqu’à la fin du contrôle dès le moment où :
(2)(2) Le transporteur doit aviser sans délai l’agent si une personne quitte ou tente de quitter le véhicule avant la fin du contrôle pour toute autre raison que le fait de se présenter au contrôle.
