Every officer can put someone under oath and take sworn evidence on anything arising under this law. A statement made to an officer can therefore carry the same weight as testimony given in a courtroom.

Legal Text: IRPA Section 141
141 Every officer has the authority to administer oaths and to take and receive evidence under oath on any matter arising out of this Act.
