Offences outside Canada

🍁 In Simple Terms

If you commit an immigration offence outside of Canada — such as organizing a smuggling operation abroad — you can still be charged, tried, and punished under Canadian law as if it happened in Canada.

Legal Text — IRPA Section 135

135 An act or omission that would by reason of this Act be punishable as an offence if committed in Canada is, if committed outside Canada, an offence under this Act and may be tried and punished in Canada.
